Not Another Coming Out Story.
Why was this story important to tell?
“I feel like with LGBTQ films, especially ones I used to watch growing up, there’s always been something tokenistic about them. The struggle of “coming out”. The trauma of just being. Characters are “gay” and it’s like this whole thing, and it’s boring to watch. It felt like gay characters could only be nuanced if the nuace was centred around their identity. But there’s so much more to see, to discover to explore than just “coming out”, it’s so surface level, yet it’s always prided as “brave” "moving.” It isn’t. The intricacies of friendship, that’s moving. The struggles of growing up, not being a kid but not being an adult is moving. That’s what I want to create and talk about.” Rufus Shaljean.
Now for the Behind The Scenes shots, taken by the insanely talented, Diana Henry aka Lightsheds.
